May Day

The younger of the two Day girls, May lived with her mother Holly and sister Dee in one of Hilda Ffinch's 'Grace and Favour' residences at the entrance to the rather grand Ffinch country estate.  A bit of a wild one, as the saying goes, May did mean well when she joined the ARP but experienced technical difficulties when it came to the old 'lipstick or whistle first?' conundrum.  That said, May could always be relied upon to keep scurvy from the door by charming oranges from sailors, lemons from soldiers and the very best bananas from the fly boys. ..

There had been doubts about the viability of the Christmas lemon curd until May bumped into Fast Eddie at the American airbase that evening, it was surprising what a quick yank could achieve...

"This reminds me of the opera!" shouted May excitedly. Dee was fairly sure that May wasn't taking this ARP lark seriously...

No one had the nerve to tell May that her skirt was tucked

into her knickers again...

There were no prizes for guessing who had been to the greengrocers and who had been to the docks...

Stepping out with a new young man proved jolly confusing to May at first and to be honest, a visit to Hilda Ffinch didn't really help matters much...

"Hurry up, May!" Dee hissed, eager to get to the docks to get her hands on some fresh pollocks.

"I'm going as fast as I can!" replied May, who was beginning to feel a bit like Leonardo da Vinci  as she gamely  painted Moaning Lisa's legs...
