There may have been a war on, but this didn't stop the villagers of Little Hope celebrating like the clappers whenever a suitable occasion arose.  Sometimes they celebrated when an occasion didn't call for it, such as the impromptu shindig which Mrs Fox threw for Henrietta the Hormonal Hen when she miraculously produced two eggs in a single week, or the time when Mr Pitt the gravedigger fell into an open hole on Good Friday and emerged the following Sunday none the worse for wear.  Whatever the occasion, England expected and Little Hope delivered.
